After working in London, specialising in large scale commercial and environmental projects, Ben Cunliffe returned to the Lake District in 2001 to establish Ben Cunliffe Architects. Ben’s ethos was to deliver the best possible product without becoming a ‘corporate firm’. Since then we’ve grown organically bringing on board Will Norris, Nick Dent and Thomas Armistead; and today we remain a dedicated team who enjoy their work and love learning something new every day; whilst endeavouring to make design and construction a fun, positive and exciting experience for our clients.

Over 10 years we have evolved from being a traditional Architectural and Project Management organisation to a quite unique Design and Build Architectural practice. We are the Designer and the Principal Contractor for 50% of our project work totalling more than £1.5m per annum. This allows us to manage our client’s projects in a professional manner from start to finish. In all our procurement roles we work with approved sub-contractors who operate with the same ‘can do’ attitude’. We are proud to deliver projects on time, to specification and to budget for all clients.

Our passion for Architecture can be seen in all our designs but was publically recognised when we were short listed for Best Eco-Build and Best Conversion for Gilpin Lake House in 'Concept for Living'’s 2010 Design Awards. 
The success of our design work at Gilpin Lodge and the Lake House has helped the hotel to win the coveted AA 'Hotel of the Year 2012' for England.
